Committee Purpose: The purpose of the Program Committee ito oversee new program development related to key emerging issues relevant to the world of organic fiber agriculture, monitor and assess existing programs for program content, policies, and fiduciary compliance, initiate and guide program evaluations, and facilitate discussions about program priorities for Organic Exchange and provide strategic guidance.

Farm Development

The Farm Development Task Force is responsible for reviewing Organic Exchange’s Farm Program strategy and implantation plans and ensuring alignment between Organic Exchange’s, funders’ and farmers’ medium- and l ong-term goals. Progress on key outputs such as the Farmer Visibility Book and Key Performance Indicators (environmental, social and economic) will also be reviewed in depth.

Rotation Crops

The Rotation Crop Task Force will facilitate the research of rotation crops grown in conjunction with organic cotton to determine how these crops could be integrated into a more holistic farm strategy in order to provide more stability to both the farmer and the market.

Ensuring Product Marketing and Integrity – On line Tracking Service

As the demand for organic cotton grows, the need for transparency in the manufacturing and production process will increase. Consumers will demand from Brands and their suppliers the ability to provide a clear and simple way to be back up any environmental or social claims that are made. The OE On-line Tracking Service is becoming the industry standard in ensuring product marketing and integrity claims. This Task Force is focused creating a collective short and long-term strategy to enable the far and wide use of the service.

Certification and Labeling Guides

The Certification Task Force is working on the creation of tools that will help industry deal with certification and labeling. The first project is the completion of the Labeling guide, which will give greater clarity to companies that are making decisions on how to label their goods. The task force is also re-writing the OE Blended Standard and creating the OE 100 standard to address fabrics made with 100% organic fiber. The next project will be comprehensive guide to certification that can be used by all parts of the supply chain.

Sustainable Inputs

Phase One of this project will see the convening and facilitating of a Sustainable Inputs Task Force, to meet one time per month for the purpose of identifying key categories and information that should be included in an initial industry resource directory. Other items to be determined by the task force include discussion and determination of the role OE should have in this area and the development of a funding proposal should an active OE role be approved by the Board.
